Computer Systems Laboratory - ECE, University of Patras

The solution that was submitted by the research team of the Univerity of Patras, Computer Systems Laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (Dr Christos Valouxis, Dr. Christos Gogos, Dr. George Goulas, Dr. Panayiotis Alefragis, Prof. Efthymios Housos) won all three tracks of the 1st International Nurse Rostering Competition. The competition was organized by CODes, SINTEF and SaTT and lasted between 1/3/2010 and 20/6/2010 and was supported by the PATAT 2010 International Conference. The solution scored the best results amongst 15 competitors who had submitted final solutions (https://www.kuleuven-kortrijk.be/nrpcompetition/competitor-ranking) that conformed to the competition requirements. The three competition tracks were variations of the same problem, with differences in problem size and available computation time. The implemented software used Integer Programming combined with heuristic techniques. The solution approach was presented at the 8th Conference on Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling 2010. In the 2nd International Timetabling Competition ITC2007, that is supported by the International Conference PATAT2008 and the WATT (European Working Group on Automated Timetabling), the solution and the software for the Examination Timetabling Problem that was proposed from the group of the Computers System Laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras(Gogos Christos, Dr. Panayiotis Alefragis and Prof. Efthymios Housos) took the second position.

Διάκριση στον διαγωνισμό ROADEF CHALLENGE 2012

Η ομάδα που αποτελείται από τους Γκόγκο Χρήστο (ΤΕΙ Ηπείρου), Αλεφραγκή Παναγιώτη (ΤΕΙ Μεσολογγίου), Βαλουξή Χρήστο (Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών) και Χούσο Ευθύμιο (Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών) έλαβε μέρος με κωδικό S5 στον διαγωνισμό ROADEF Challenge 2012. O διαγωνισμός αυτός αφορά δύσκολα συνδυαστικά προβλήματα από τον χώρο των επιχειρήσεων και διοργανώθηκε για 8η φορά από την “Société française de Recherche Opérationnelle et Aide à la Décision”. Το πρόβλημα για το ROADEF Challenge 2012 τέθηκε από την Google και αφορούσε την μετακίνηση διεργασιών μεταξύ υπολογιστών (Machine Reassignment) έτσι ώστε να επιτευχθεί ισορροπημένη χρήση της συνολικής υποδομής. Ο διαγωνισμός ξεκίνησε στις 8 Ιουνίου του 2011 και έληξε στις 8 Ιουλίου του 2012 ενώ συμμετείχαν περισσότερες από 80 ομάδες από 33 χώρες (http://challenge.roadef.org/2012/en/index.php) με την παραπάνω ομάδα να είναι η μοναδική συμμετοχή στο διαγωνισμό από την Ελλάδα. Για την τελική φάση επιλέχθησαν 30 ομάδες συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Ελληνικής η οποία χρησιμοποίησε λογισμικά ανοικτού κώδικα. Η τελική θέση που κατέλαβε η ομάδα ήταν η 10η (http://challenge.roadef.org/2012/en/results.php). Η παρουσίαση της αλγοριθμικής προσέγγισης που ακολουθήθηκε έγινε στο 25ο Ευρωπαϊκό συνέδριο για την Επιχειρησιακή Έρευνα (EURO 2012:http://www.euro-2012.lt).
