Laboratory - History & Profile

 

      The Computer Systems Laboratory of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Patras was established in 1991 with its main objective being the teaching and research in the area of Computer and Information Systems. The main areas of current research activity are in software engineering, decision support systems, Web services, security, combinatorial optimisation, scheduling and expert systems technology, special purpose computer architectures, etc. The emphasis is on the design and implementation of systems and applications in information management, decision support, environmental modelling, transport management and crew and resource scheduling.

      Its' faculty and support teams consists of 4 faculty members, 20 research Ph.D. candidates and 15-20 thesis students. The laboratory's computer equipment includes HP workstations, SUN Sparc stations, and 40 PCs that support a broad variety of operating systems (UNIX, Linux,  Windows NT/2000/XP, Netware). CSL also has access via networking to all the facilities of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department.

      The Computer Systems Laboratory has become a key part of the Department with substantial contributions in many European and National research and development projects.
